Orange County is first to get the Gold for Green!

Orange County becomes the first municipality in Florida to achieve the green local government certification at the GOLD level

Orange County, FL, receives the prestigious award from the Florida Green Building Coalition on April 22, 2008, making it the first municipality in Florida to achieve the green local government certification at the GOLD level.

Orange County has implemented various initiatives to raise public awareness and work towards a greener community, such as observing May as Clean Air Month and the “Orange to Green” Climate Change, among others.

The “Orange to Green” Climate Change Initiative will provide multiple local benefits by improving air quality and decreasing air pollution, reducing energy expenditures, saving money for the government, its businesses, and its citizens, preserving green spaces, reducing traffic congestion, improving transportation choices, and expanding economic development and job creation through energy conservation and new energy technologies.

Furthermore, Orange County has made a commitment to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the County’s operations by 40% by the year 2020. Transportation issues are connected to the quality of the air we breathe. Good air quality is a vital component related to the economic health and quality of life in Orange County.
